Kids Quest is a dynamic program for children in grades 2-8 providing homework help, project completion, reading readiness, and social skills.
The mandate of this program is to improve literacy levels, address low elementary school test scores, and reinforce positive work habits. These objectives are realized in a fun, interactive setting that challenges participants to meet their own goals, without compelling them to compete with others.
TThe teen aspect of Kids Quest, for students grades 9 – 12, deals with the unique challenges high school students face with complex course work, standardized tests, and Independent Study Units. Experienced staff and volunteers will be available for one to one tutoring. Seminars or workshop group sessions will be organized to meet student demands.
Kids Quest exists to increase literacy and numeracy among the children of Fort Erie, through homework help, reading-readiness activities and skill-building. But what Kids Quest does best is provide a fun, in a non-competitive atmosphere that fosters learning without frustration!
Kids Quest helps children master essential learning skills – such as math, reading, research, and writing – which enable them to complete homework more easily and with greater success.
The teen aspect of Kids Quest is dedicated to addressing the challenges teenagers face in school. Experienced staff and volunteers can give these students the individualized attention needed to deal with complex course work, complete research projects, and prepare for the standardized literacy and math tests.
*NEW for teens starting in the fall of 2009, is the introduction of information seminars and workshops to assist them in their preparation for present and future aspirations.
Reading is the keystone to all educational achievement. Kids Quest recognizes this and provides Reading Readiness activities every week at both the Centennial and Crystal Ridge branches. Reading levels are assessed and children are partnered one-on-one with experienced volunteers.
All skill levels benefit from this program, whether children need help with letter recognition and phonics, or the transition to reading chapter books.
In order to promote well-being and encourage the building of good social relationships with other participants, Kids Quest incorporates a program wide social skills element into daily activities.
